This week in reading, we will review Setting (when and where the story takes place). We will use words to describe the setting such as hot or cold and discuss things that belong there. We will also create mental images and pick out the setting when reading a passage/book.
Students have been writing some fun stories about winter. We continue to focus on using our best handwriting and writing in complete sentences with capitals and punctuation. Thank you for reinforcing this on homework as well.
We are going to be learning about Equality in math. The equal sign shows us that the values on each side are the same.
4 = 3 + 1 3 + 1 = 4
3 + 1 = 1 + 3 4 + 0 = 1 + 3
We will use a balance scale to show equal amounts/equations and demonstrate equality with manipulatives such as unifix cubes and teddy bear counters.
Our next Social Studies unit is Economics! We will be reviewing needs and wants and then learning about goods and services and consumers and producers. We will also discuss saving and spending money. First graders will have the opportunity to be consumers and producers at school by making and “buying” goods, such as bracelets or pencil toppers, made by other students.
