May Movement Opportunity: Week 4

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and is ready for an amazing week of exercise and fun!!!!!  Week 4 of the May Movement Opportunities involves yoga, locomotor skills (crawling, scooting), and a basket flipping challenge!!!!  You can complete any challenge you want, as many times as you want.  Spread out the challenges to last all week or try all three in a single day.  As mentioned in previous weeks, the choice is all yours :).  Click on the link below to access the challenge directions and demonstration videos!  Good luck, stay safe, and stay active!!!!

Workout Wednesday: Wheel of Fitness

After a short break, Workout Wednesday has RETURNED!!!!  For our activity today we will spinning the “Wheel of Fitness”.  Simply spin the wheel and complete the exercise you landed on.  But be careful!!!!!!  Some choice may have you answer health/fitness questions or even DOUBLE (x2) your next exercise!  Spin as many times as you want to ensure that you are moving enough to get that heart rate going!

May Movement Opportunity: Week 3 Challenges

Welcome back to another exciting week of fitness!!!!  This week we will be focusing on muscular strength and muscular endurance using your major leg muscles (quadriceps and hamstrings), as well as, a partner challenge that will make you sweat!

The first challenge is very similar to the “Builders & Bulldozers” game we have played in class.  In this 1v1 challenge, players will race to see who can have the most cups flipped (upright or upside down) in just 1 minute!!!!  How fast can you move?!?!?

Our second challenge combines locomotor skills (running, hopping, skipping, sliding, etc.) and jumping in this relay style game.  How many objects can you bring back in just one minute?!?!?

The last challenge of the week will test your perseverance for sure!  The directions are simple, how long can you hold a “Wall Sit” position for? 15 seconds?  30 seconds?  1 minute? 2 minutes?!?! LONGER?!?!?!?!?! Only one way to find out, good luck!!!!

May Movement Opportunity: Week 2

It is now the beginning of the second full week in May, which means ANOTHER BRAND NEW movement opportunity to try out!  This week the challenges focus on strengthening your abdominal muscles, leg muscles (quadriceps and hamstrings), and improving your cardiorespiratory endurance.  Remember that you can choose one challenge, two, or even try all three!!!!  If you do not have some of the materials at home, do not panic, because I have listed alternative ways you can do each challenge.  If you have any questions about any of the challenges, please leave your questions/comments on this post and I will be sure to respond as soon as I can.  You may also reach me at,  Stay tuned next week for yet another amazing set of workout challenges.  I miss you all and cannot wait to see you all real soon!!!!!!

May Movement Opportunity: Week 1 Challenges

With May already here (crazy I know), I have some amazing new fitness challenges for you and your families to enjoy.  Each week in May I will be posting a set of fitness challenges for you to complete.  Since there will be a variety of activities, YOU can choose the challenges you want to complete, YOU can decide when to complete the challenges, and YOU can have fun while improving your health.  If you have not caught on yet, the focus of these challenges is all for YOU 🙂

The Week 1 Challenges focus on cardiorespiratory endurance, underhand/overhand throwing & catching, and abdominal strength.  You may choose one challenge to complete, two challenges, or even all three challenges.  The decision is entirely up to you!  Each challenge is only 1 minute long, so you can complete them as many times as you want.  Use the link below to access the Week 1 Challenges and be ready for some amazing workouts!  Hope you enjoy and stay tuned for next week when the Week 2 Challenges will be revealed.

Workout Wednesday #3: Heads or Tails Fitness

Welcome back to another wonderful workout Wednesday.  For today’s workout we will be playing the classic heads or tails game with a small twist.  Now we know from math class that the probability of your coin landing on heads or tails is 50%; however, the probability of getting a crazy good workout is 100%!  All you need to play is a coin with two sides.  If you do not have a coin, any two sided object will do!  Follow the link below to play!!!!

Workout Wednesday #2: The Fitness Game Board

Welcome back to another Workout Wednesday fitness activity!!!!
This week we will be diving in a game called The Fitness Board Game.  Similar to traditional board games, this game can be played as a single player or with multiple people.  The goal of this game is to reach the finish line by rolling the dice and completing any exercises you come across.

Workout Wednesday #1: The ABC Challenge

Welcome back Tigers!!!! 

I hope everyone has been staying healthy, eating well, and spending quality time with their family.  As we continue our social distancing and distance learning, I felt it was important to provide you all with yet another physical fitness challenge activity.  This week we will be focusing a little activity I like to call, the Trevvett Tigers ABC Challenge.

The Trevvett Tigers ABC Challenge will not only test your strength and endurance, but it will give your brain a mental sweat as well!!!!  The directions for this challenge are quite simple.  For each letter of alphabet there is an exercise with varying repetitions (feel free to increase/decrease how many times you perform each exercise).  As you go through the alphabet (A-Z), you will complete the exercises for each letter as best you can.  See, it is that simple!  There are a few others ways to complete this challenge:

  1. Spell your name (first, last, or both!)
  2. Practice spelling sight words (
  3. Find challenging words around the house to spell (food/drink labels, boxes, books, mail, etc.)

April Movement Opportunity

Welcome Tiger Families

As Trevvett Elementary’s new Chief Movement Officer (CMO), I have been searching for a variety of new ways students and their families can maintain physical activity in their very own homes.  As you may have seen, every Wednesday I will have a new workout video on the Trevvett Tigers PTO Facebook page.

In addition to this resource I will also be posting “Movement Opportunities” each month beginning in April.  These movement opportunities can be completed by students of all ages with most resources having written directions and visuals for our students and families to refer to.  So what will April’s Movement Opportunity look like?

April M.O. – Fitness Scavenger Hunt:

  1. Students and their family’s can choose between 4 different fitness scavenger hunts.
  2. Each scavenger hunt requires all participants to complete the assigned task by finding items that most students have in their homes.
  3. Once the task has been completed, participants will then perform the assigned exercise for each completed task (some tasks are the exercises).
  4. The total time for each scavenger hunt ranges from 5-10 minutes.
  5. The scavenger hunt can be completed as a family or participants can race to see who will finish all of the tasks first.
  6. As an added bonus, families can create their own scavenger hunt by:
    1. Making a copy of the “Family Edition”.
    2. Inputting your own exercises/tasks in the empty table.
    3. Sharing the document with family and friends.
  7. Lastly, please post pictures of you and your families in action, stories about your fitness journeys, and anything else fitness related on the Trevvett Tigers PTO Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter.  Don’t forget to tag @healthykidsva and #CMOCadre.

Welcome Back Tigers!!!!!!!

I cannot believe the new school year is already here!!!!  It seems like yesterday our students were finishing up their SOL tests and preparing for a much needed Summer Break.  I am super excited to get the year started so that I can implement a few new programs within Health and Physical Education.  For instance, I have made a few upgrades to the gymnasium (Tiger Dome):

  • “Tiger’s Fitness Hall of Fame”
  • Revamped world wall
  • Freshly remodeled incentive program aligned with our PAW values
  • Upgraded Tiger PAWs w/ a menu of choices/prizes to buy
  • BRAND NEW projector to increase our use of technology (TBD on it’s implementation)
  • Fitness Folders (Grades 3-5)

What is coming back to PE?

  • Running for Healthy Hearts (stay tuned for more info)
  • Morning Clubs (Grades K-5)
  • Fitness Testing (Grades 3-5)
  • Aquatics Field Trip (5th Grade)
  • Field Day
  • Family Fitness Night
  • Success Week

With the combination of returning programs and new/upgraded programs, I am positively certain that this school year will be the best one yet!  I cannot wait to see our returning Tigers and welcome our new students to the Tiger Family.  Stay tuned for more updates!!!!!
